WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF
The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 600 people, of whom 140 work at SLF in Davos.
The Research Unit Snow and Atmosphere is concerned with the physical properties of the material snow and permafrost, with snow – atmosphere interactions and the role of snow, ice and permafrost in the climate system. The research group Snow Processes is offering for two years a position as
PostDoc in Snow – Atmosphere Interactions
Measuring and modelling important processes such as snow deposition, snow loading, and energy exchange at the snow surface. You will develop a new research program on isotope dynamics at the snow surface to better quantify mass and energy exchanges. You will work with existing and new data sets from automatic measuring stations at extreme locations in the polar regions and in the high mountains. Contributing to the development and maintenance of existing models and data platforms is another task in your varied field of activity. In collaboration with international project partners you will publish important results in scientific journals.
You hold a university degree in natural sciences, physics or meteorology as well as a PhD in this field and have proven expertise of the processes occurring in snow and/or the atmospheric boundary layer as well isotope dynamics. Furthermore, you have experience in the eddy correlation technique and turbulence measurements in general as well as in statistical analysis of long-term data series. German and English skills as well as experience working in high alpine terrain are required. You bring solid analytical capacities and a good talent for organisation and communication. You enjoy working in a team that operates at the interface between science and practice.
