We have an opening for a PhD position at the Research Center Jülich (https://www.fz-juelich.de/), Germany with focus on snow modeling, data assimilation and remote sensing. The position is part of the newly DFG funded Collaborative Research Center 1502 (SFB 1502) on Regional Climate Change: Disentangling the Role of Land Use and Water Management (DETECT). The position is for the C04 project which aims to develop and implement a snow data assimilation scheme into the fully coupled terrestrial systems model to improve continental-scale snow estimates and its impacts on the energy and water budgets. The successful candidate will develop remote sensing snow data assimilation scheme in the land surface model (CLM5), applying advanced hydrologic modelling and data assimilation technologies in supercomputing environments.
