There are a number of cryosphere PhD projects now advertised through the NERC funded IAPETUS Doctoral Training Partnership. A full list of projects is available here: https://iapetus2.ac.uk/studentships/
David Small (NERC Independent Research Fellow) is happy to give further information to potential applicants for a project he is advertising: Tracking past grounding line retreat from onshore rates of ice sheet thinning: https://iapetus2.ac.uk/studentships/tracking-past-grounding-line-retreat-from-onshore-rates-of-ice-sheet-thinning-2/
This project aims to test if past changes in ice sheet thickness can be used as a proxy for grounding line retreat using a range of techniques potentially including field, lab and desk based methods. There is the possibility of fieldwork in Antarctica and Northwest Scotland however fieldwork is not required for the project to be undertaken. We strongly encourage applicants from backgrounds that are currently under-represented in cryospheric and polar sciences, including women, people from ethnic minorities, BAME, LGBTQ+ communities and people with a disability.
