Main Purpose of the Post
We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Antarctic Magnetotelluric Geophysics to join the Swansea Glaciology Group. The successful candidate will participate in multi-national fieldwork campaigns acquiring magnetotelluric data on the Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica, followed by data analysis, interpretation and publication of the results. This role is part of the GHOST Project ‘Geophysical Habitat of Subglacial Thwaites’, one of eight projects co-funded as part of The International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration by the UK Natural Environment Research Council and the US National Science Foundation https://thwaitesglacier.org/projects/ghost
The project is a collaboration with the British Antarctic Survey and the University of Edinburgh in the UK, with a number of US institutes, including Penn State University, and with the Alfred Wegener Institute in Germany. Candidates will have a PhD in geophysics, physics or equivalent physical science discipline, and have clear evidence of expertise in the pro-active planning and execution of magnetotelluric data acquisition, processing and analysis. They will also have evidence of the ability to actively engage in and contribute to writing and publishing research papers, particularly for refereed journals.
