The position is focused on assessing temporal and spatial measurements of soil moisture on James Ross Island (and other sites in the Antarctic Peninsula) and determination of interactions between moisture, ground thermal regime, geomorphology, vegetation etc. The position is within the Czech Science Foundation project “Dynamics of the periglacial environment in the Antarctic Peninsula region under ongoing climate change”.

Skills and Qualifications

The applicant must have:

  • PhD Degree in Earth Sciences (or related disciplines) within 8 years after the award or to be able proof to obtain this degree within 30 September 2023
  • Experience with spatio-temporal data analysis and work in relevant analytical software
  • Good communication skills and fluency (oral and written) in English 
  • Good and relevant publication record

The applicant should have:

  • High motivation to join research team 
  • General experiences with the work in geoscience laboratory           
  • Technical skills and ability to maintain instruments for soil climate monitoring 
  • Experiences with the fieldwork in polar or mountainous regions
  • Physical and mental resilience to cope with several week staying in remote area of Antarctica
