- Postdoctoral Researcher
Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct a glacial seismic study of Greenland Ice Sheet subglacial hydrology. This NSF-funded project seeks to observe changes in subglacial hydrologic network geometry through two consecutive melt seasons by combining passive seismic, radar, and direct moulin water pressure observations. This postdoc will work with Dr. Grace Barcheck and lead the passive seismic part of the project, including field deployment of sensors, detecting and locating icequakes, computing icequake source parameters, and detecting glaciohydraulic tremor.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences with a focus on either glaciology or seismology, demonstrated experience in technical scientific computing, prior experience with either subglacial hydrology or passive seismic analysis, and a desire to participate in and lead the seismic field deployment. The postdoc will work closely with Dr. Grace Barcheck at Cornell University, as well as collaborators at Cornell and Syracuse University. They will also benefit from interaction with the broader cryosphere and seismology groups at Cornell University. The position is initially available for one year with a potential renewal for a total of two years.
