- Postdoctoral Researcher
Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct a study of glacial seismicity associated with the slowing Whillans Ice Stream in West Antarctica. The project is funded by the Arete Glacier Foundation and will involve revisiting passive seismic data collected on Whillans Ice Plain in 2012-2016. The postdoc will create icequake catalogs for all available data using consistent methods, compute source parameters for high quality events, and interpret results to understand physical mechanisms of the Whillans Ice Stream slowdown.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences with a focus on either glaciology or seismology, demonstrated experience in technical scientific computing, and ideally but not necessarily experience with passive seismic data analysis in either the glacial or tectonic context. The postdoc will work closely with Dr. Grace Barcheck and Dr. Seth Saltiel at Cornell, as well as collaborators at MIT, and they will also benefit from interaction with the broader cryosphere and seismology groups at Cornell University. Opportunities for unrelated glacial seismic field work in coastal Alaskan will be available, for interested candidates. The position is initially available for one year with a potential renewal for a total of two years.
