- Research Scientist
The successful candidate will serve as Principal Investigator (PI) of the MarineBasis Zackenberg programme. Responsibilities include planning and participating in the annual field campaign in the Zackenberg area, Northeast Greenland, as well as ensuring high scientific and organisational standards in programme implementation.
The position requires strong organisational skills, experience managing and analysing large datasets (preferably long-term monitoring time series), and the ability to secure external research funding. The candidate will join an international research environment conducting integrated studies in physical oceanography, marine ecology, and climate-related processes, with a focus on understanding natural variability and climate-driven change in Arctic marine ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Act as PI and scientific lead of MarineBasis Zackenberg
- Plan and participate in annual fieldwork activities
- Manage, analyse, and report monitoring and research data
- Develop new interdisciplinary research projects and prepare funding applications
- Publish in international peer-reviewed journals
- Contribute to teaching and educational activities
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in physical oceanography or a closely related marine science discipline.
Assessment will emphasise:
- Scientific expertise and vision within physical oceanography or a closely related marine science discipline and Arctic marine monitoring
- A strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals
- Proven ability to attract external research funding
- Experience with marine or environmental monitoring programmes.
- Experience in interdisciplinary and international collaboration
- Experience working with large and long-term datasets
