We are pleased to announce that applications will soon be accepted for the 2027 cohort of the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship, a program of Schmidt Sciences at UC San Diego. This one-of-a-kind program, made possible by the generous support of Schmidt Sciences, formerly Schmidt Futures, leverages UC San Diego’s place at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence research to train the next generation of scientific leaders pioneering the use of AI in STEM. Over the course of the two-year fellowship, Schmidt AI in Science Postdocs receive comprehensive training and mentoring by experts in their fields of study and AI methods. 

Beginning September 1st, we invite applications for our 2027 cohort of Schmidt AI in Science Postdocs from PhD candidates and postdoctoral scholars in the natural, mathematical, and engineering sciences whose work would be enhanced by training in AI methods. Applicants should articulate both the impact of their proposed research and how the integration of AI methods into their research would advance their field. Applicants must obtain the sponsorship of a PI at UC San Diego who is willing to serve as their primary (STEM) faculty mentor for their postdoctoral appointment at UCSD. STEM faculty mentors who are interested in the use of AI in their field are encouraged to identify excellent candidates and support their application and will be asked to submit a letter of nomination describing the scientific significance of the proposed project and the value of AI training to the applicant’s scholarship. Due to the high volume of applications received, we ask that each faculty member nominate only one candidate.
