APECS-APPLICATE Webinar II - Improving Weather and Climate Models

Dr. Matthieu Chevallier (MétéoFrance, Toulouse, France)

2017-11-29

Weather and climate models have typically been developed for mid-latitude regions, but different processes are relevant for the Polar regions. Prediction in the Arctic and beyond using global models can be improved through a better representation of processes at the atmosphere-sea ice-ocean interface, including small-scale processes, and through a revisit of the atmosphere-ocean coupling strategy in coupled models. This webinar will focus on ‘Enhanced weather and climate models’, one of five science work packages of the EU-funded APPLICATE project, which brings together a European consortium of scientists from different disciplines to advance our capability to predict the weather and climate in the Arctic and beyond.
