Landscapes Live: Ajay Limaye
Thursday 11 March 2021
Location Online

We are very pleased to announce our next “Landscapes Live” online seminar of 2021 by Ajay Limaye (University of Virginia) that will occur this week on Thursday 11th March at 7 am PST / 10 am EST / 3 pm GMT / 4 pm CET on:

“Origin and evolution of river forms”

Abstract: The imprints of rivers in sedimentary deposits and landscapes are key clues for interpreting past environments. Yet the significance of these interpretations rests on our ability to distinguish forms linked to initial conditions from those that evolve over time due to environmental forcing. This talk will use two case studies to explore this continuum from original to evolved forms. I will discuss a criterion for diagnosing past river migration using channel sinuosity, and a dimensionless framework for predicting the growth of channel belts by braided rivers — with applications from paleoclimatic interpretation to river restoration design.

This seminar will be live on Zoom and open to anyone interested (with a limit of 300 participants). You can register in advance for this Zoom meeting here.

After registering, you should receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. We will also post the Zoom link for this meeting on the seminar website.

  • Thursday 18th March at 3 pm GMT/ 4 pm CET: Roman DiBiase, Pennsylvania State University
  • Thursday 25th March at 3 pm GMT/ 4 pm CET: Simon Mudd, University of Edinburgh

Previous talks are available on the website. We are already planning a second seminar series this spring. Feel free to contact us if you have questions or suggestions: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
