ASSW 2023
From Friday 17 February 2023
To Friday 24 February 2023
Location Vienna, Austria

The Arctic Science Summit Week 2023 (ASSW 2023) will be held in Vienna, Austria from 17 to 24 February 2023.

The Conference is organized by the Austrian Polar Research Institute (APRI), the Austrian Arctic Community, the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and partners. The venue will be the University of Vienna, one of the oldest universities in Europe. To meet the requirements of a potential influence of Covid-19 on the conference, but also to make the event as CO2 friendly as possible, the conference is planned as a hybrid event.

The general theme of the ASSW 2023 Science Symposium is "The Arctic in the Anthropocene". Vienna and the Austrian Polar Research Institute invite researchers from all scientific disciplines to discuss the role of the Arctic in the Anthropocene, spanning the time frame from the past to the future.

Abstract submission for the ASSW 2023 Science Symposium “The Arctic in the Anthropocene” (21 – 24 February 2023) is open until 20 September 2022.

Never before has the Arctic experienced such a high pressure by human impact either by local environmental disturbances or by global climate change leading to long-term changes and massive challenges to the resistance and resilience of polar ecological systems and Arctic societies. “The Arctic in the Anthropocene” is a quite appropriate theme to focus on the increasing pressure of high latitudes. Several sessions offer space to shed light on short- and long-term changes, respectively, on human, terrestrial, aquatic or aerial systems. Despite the focus on the Arctic, contributions on the Antarctic, aiming at fostering networking and advances on research on both poles, are accepted and appreciated.

Abstract submission is open for the following sessions:  https://assw.info/programme/science-symposium/sessions

Each lead author may submit up to one oral and one poster presentation. Abstracts text is limited to 1500 characters and the title should not be longer than 150 characters. The notification on abstract acceptance will be made by mid-November 2022, with the programme being presented in December 2022. Oral presentations will be up to 12 minutes plus 3 minutes of discussion time. The abstracts will be organized in a book of abstracts with DOI to be made available in pdf.

Abstract submission instructions are available on the ASSW 2023 website: https://assw.info/programme/science-symposium
