APECS membership is free and signing up only takes a few minutes. As an APECS member you are automatically added to the our mailing lists: 

• main international mailing list

  ... to receive our announcements and newsletter. 

• mailing list of your National Committee

  Based on your “country of residence” information you provide in the registration form you will be assigned to a National Committee (if there is one in your country). If you do not wish to be added to your National Committee mailing list, you can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will remove you from their list. Unsubscribing from your National Committee mailing list does not affect your APECS membership as a whole. 

• mailing list for non-early career scientist and professionals

  In case you are a non-early career scientists and professional (e.g. mentors, partners and others) interested in APECS we keep you informed about APECS activities and announcements via this mailing list.

• Data Use Permission

  To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in the European Union, where our APECS International Directorate Office is located, taking effect on 25 May 2018, we require you to accept our Data Use Policy as part of our membership registration form.

  APECS will use the information you provide on our registration form to get in touch with you and to provide updates about its activities. Please note that our mailing list provider, MailChimp, allows us to track subscriber activity including whether or not you open the email, how many times, and which links in the email you click on. Collecting this information helps us understand the key interests of our members in order to make our activities, resources, and our newsletters and announcements as relevant as possible. APECS will only use this data in an anonymized form for general statistics about our membership and for planning the direction of our upcoming activities and projects.

  The APECS Executive Committee is also working at the moment on a general data use policy for our APECS activities which will be published here this summer and announced to all of our members.

  By registering for APECS membership, you agree that we may process your information in accordance to these terms and accept our data use policy.

  APECS is strongly committed to protecting the data of our members so we see compliance with the new regulations in the EU, where our international office is based, as extremely important.

• Voluntary Membership Donation

  If you are interested in providing a small voluntary membership donation that will help support our activities making sure we can continue to shape the future of polar research, please go to Donation. Every small amount helps to ensure that APECS can continue providing all of its resources and programs as well as organise its activities around the world for all of our members! 

• Updating your APECS Profile

  Do you need to update any information in your APECS profile (email address, country, institutions etc.)? You do not need to register for APECS again. You can simply click on the "Update your APECS Profile" link that you find at the bottom of each email we are sending out and follow the instructions in the form.

  Alternatively, you can also email the APECS International Directorate Office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that they update your profile for you.

• Unsubscribing from the APECS Membership

  Unsubscribing from the APECS mailing list will automatically end your APECS membership. You can do this at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe from APECS” link at the bottom of each email we send out. At any time you can re-subscribe by registering again for APECS on this page.
