Chandrika Nath is Acting Director of the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, an internal office of both Houses of the UK Parliament whose remit is to provide UK parliamentarians with objective scientific advice to promote informed decision-making and to promote and support the uptake of research evidence across Parliament. Her office provides parliamentarians with a range of written briefings as well as providing direct support to Parliamentary committees and other offices. It also plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between parliamentarians and the research community. Dr Nath has 14 years of experience of providing scientific advice to Parliamentarians with the Parliamentary office of science and technology, and has briefed parliamentarians on subjects ranging from nuclear security through to unmanned vehicles and space technologies. She has a keen interest in international development issues and has worked with countries including Uganda, Kenya and Malawi to support evidence informed policy-making in a Parliamentary context. Prior to working for Parliament she worked at the British Antarctic Survey as a glaciologist. She has a doctorate in particle physics from Oxford University.
