Dr. Pedro Cid-Agüero is an associate professor in the Antarctic Programs Centre at the University of Magallanes, Punta Arenas, Chile. The emphasis of Dr. Cid-Aguero’s research projects has been in the cryosphere environmental chemistry and the understanding of the chemical and physical cryoprotective mechanisms of cryophilic microorganisms living in cold regions especially within Antarctic territories. Dr. Cid-Agüero has been involved in several scientific Antarctic expeditions to study the presence of contaminants in the ice fields and searching for microalgae. He serves also as a coordinator for the Masters of Antarctic Sciences offered by the University of Magallanes.
Dr. Cid-Agüero got his Ph.D. in Chemistry with specialization in Physical-Chemistry at The University of New Mexico, NM, USA, followed by postdoctoral positions at both, The Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, and at The University of Akron, Akron, OH.
