- Arctic
I am a physical oceanographer who studies the arctic seas. Most of my work has focused on the large-scale properties, circulation, and climatological variations in the upper ocean and the sea ice cover. In recent years, I have been focusing mostly on the upper ~150 m which includes the surface mixed layer and the water masses of the halocline. I'm actually quite obsessed now with the details of sea ice retreat and its impact on the ocean surface, particularly on ocean warming. I use numerical model output, satellite data, and in situ observations in my work.
- Mentor Panels
These panels are held at major international conferences and are coordinated by
APECS members. Participation involves a 2-3 hour commitment on the day
of the panel meeting. - One-on-One Mentoring
Email correspondence with APECS members regarding career advice (including
alternative careers in polar/cryospheric issues), research skills, data
management and occasional research-specific discussions/questions. - Reviewing Resumes/CVs and Assisting with Cover Letter Development.
- Helping to improve presentation and communication skills
- In-person meetings/conferences/seminars
- Telephone/Skype conversations
