My research interests focus on permafrost and climate change in the Antarctic Peninsula region. The main topics of on-going activities are the geomorphodynamics of periglacial environments, permafrost temperature monitoring and modelling, climate monitoring and geomorphological mapping. I have several monitoring activities in Livingston and Deception Islands (Antarctic) in the framework on AntEEC Research Group. I am currently also involved on a project on Mars-Earth analogues where we are conducting multiscale field and remote sensing mapping of patterned ground (mainly tundra polygons) in Svalbard. Another of my research interests is glacial geomorphology and I am currently working on glacial chronology of the Serra da Estrela, Central Portugal. I am coordinating the Research Group on Antarctic Environments and Climate Change at the Centre for Geographical Studies - University of Lisbon
- Mentor Panels
These panels are held at major international conferences and are coordinated by
APECS members. Participation involves a 2-3 hour commitment on the day
of the panel meeting. - Career Development Presentations
Short presentations at conferences/workshops with a question/answer period. - Career Development Workshop Sessions
Helping in the coordination and facilitation of sessions at major conferences - One-on-One Mentoring
Email correspondence with APECS members regarding career advice (including
alternative careers in polar/cryospheric issues), research skills, data
management and occasional research-specific discussions/questions.
