Under Ms Fujiko Nakaya’s supervision, the Conversations with Snow and Ice exhibition consisted of five main interrelated sections. Appropriately enough, the first exhibit was a documented history of the observations of snow crystals, including those of Descartes.Dr. Ukichiro Nakaya’s scientific achievements featured in part two, with a variety of his activities exhibited, while the third part was a contemporary art exhibition. The fourth part of the exhibition showed replicas of ice cores drilled through the ice sheet of Antarctica and Messages from the Earth: Data about the Ice Cores of Antarctica. Finally, workshops and related events including lectures, seminars, out-door activities for children and poetry reading were also organised. In offering events and activities engaging scientists and artists alike, the exhibition reached a diverse audience. Visitors, especially school children, enjoyed the snow and ice workshops offered by the museum staff members. Apart from viewing the wonderful exhibits, visitors also left inspired by U. Nakaya’s philosophy that ‘Science is a joint creation of mankind and nature’.
