'Open Ship' on RV Polarstern is a quite regular major event in Bremerhaven/Germany. The German supply and research vessel, operated by the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, is one of the leading 'instruments' in polar research. 'Polarstern' hosted various expeditions during IPY 2007/2008.
