World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ) competition
  • Media
This collaboration between the IPY-CFL science team and the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ) involved a competition for media berths aboard the research icebreaker, CCGS Amundsen, during the IPY-CFL expedition. This partnership resulted in media from 40 countries writing articles in their respective countries to compete for one of the 14 berths. Successful journalists traveled to the Canadian Arctic and boarded the ship for an average of 2 weeks. While onboard they conducted interviews and wrote daily stories about IPY, northern peoples, climate change and the scientific research of the IPY-CFL teams, for media outlets around the world including Canada, USA, UK, Italy, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, India, and pan-Arab countries.
