A collaboration of the National Snow and Ice Data Center and the University of Colorado Museum, the principal investigator and team developed a small exhibit that highlights aspects of environmental change in the Arctic as observed by Inuit Elders in Clyde River, Nunatvut, Canada. “Silavut: Inuit Voices in a Changing World” was a museum exhibit on display during the International Polar Year at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History (April 15, 2008 – May 1, 2009). Through a series of panels with text, photos, maps, interactive computer technology, and video screen, along with displays of Inuit material culture, visitors to the exhibit learned about Inuit observations and knowledge of the changing climate and environment around the community of Clyde River, Nunavut. Through the exhibit “Silavut: Inuit Voices in a Changing World”, visitors learned about the experiences of one Inuit community with climate change through the words and stories of the people who live there. The exhibit included a section that informed the visitor on starting an oral history research project similar to the work of the principal investigator. An oral history take-home guide and material on the Web were produced.
