VNIIOkeangeologia - Federal State Unitary Enterprise "All-Russian Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean named after academician Igor Gramberg" (the official abbreviation - FSUE "VNIIOkeangeologia named after I.S. Gramberg") - was founded in 1948 (initial name until 1981 - Scientific-Research Institute of Geology of the Arctic: NIIGA), has the status of dual subordination (Ministry of Natural Resources and RAS).
It is currently the head (basic) research organization of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of Russia in the field of geological study of the continental shelf, the Ocean, the Arctic and the Antarctic, is administered by the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of Russia.
