Norwegian Academy for Polar Research
The Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research (NVP) is a non-profit foundation, established on 27 March 2008, and with its main office in the Arctic, at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. The Academy’s Board consists of a President, a Vice President and four Board members. The Board manages the Academy’s assets and implements activities for promotion of the Academy’s mission. An office manager at UNIS in a 40% position and a Secretary General in a 20% position take care of the daily administration of the Academy.
The Academy currently has 135 individual members and three honorary members spread across 19 nationalities. The Academy also has eight institutional members, which provides support to the activities and which are contributing to the Academy’s profile, which is interdisciplinary, socially relevant and user-oriented.
