In April 2010, the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) launched a new initiative: the Discipline of the Month (DOM). This inaugural DOM was April is Atmosphere, highlighting polar research across the spectrum of atmospheric and climate sciences and serving as a test for the new DOM concept. As the first of its kind, the atmospheric DOM was extremely successful. The website received more than 400 unique views from 44 different countries during the month of April, compared to fewer than 10 views in previous months. Several members signed up to the mailing list, many first-time participants attended the VPS, and a number of users participated in the interactive features.
