APECS Italy is an association of early career polar researchers that aims to bring together those conducting polar and cryosphere research in Italy in order to organize outreach and capacity building events, and foster collaborations.
Despite organizing many successful events in recent years, the members of APECS Italy leadership have taken on new roles in their careers, and can no longer continue to lead the organization. For that reason, we are now seeking to nominate a new coordinator of APECS Italy.
The role of the APECS Italy coordinator will work to foster communication and collaborations with APECS International, work with APECS Italy members develop ideas for new events and activities, and manage the event funding available from APECS International. In addition, the APECS Italy coordinator will work with the interested members of APECS Italy to create a leadership board.
In order to apply for the coordinator position, please complete the online application available at the following link: http://bit.ly/3a7QeHo. The evaluation committee will be composed of the outgoing members of APECS Italy leadership, Dr. Andrea Spolaor, Dr. François Burgay, and Dr. Jilda Caccavo.
The evaluation will take place in two phases: the first will be based on the candidate’s relevant past experience, and most importantly, their interests and ideas to foster and promote APECS Italy. Candidates selected during the first phase will take part in a brief online interview, primarily in order to answer any outstanding questions on the part of the candidates regarding the coordinator role.
In order to evaluate the past experience of candidates, the following will be considered:
a) Past experience with volunteer associations and/or outreach activities online or in person (preferably with associated documentation)
b) Ideas for future APECS Italy activities, how to structure the workings of the organization and leadership, online presence (e.g. website, social media), potential improvements, etc.
c) A clear plan for the sustainability of APECS Italy and the engagements of its members such that leadership transitions can occur smoothly without interrupting the organization’s activities.
d) Doctoral students or other types of early-career researchers with fixed research contracts or fellowships will be preferentially considered for the coordinator position. There is no age-limit to be a member of APECS Italy, or to apply for any leadership positions within the organization.
