The Brazilian National Committee of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists – APECS-Brazil – along with the Superior School of Defense (ESD), held the APECS-Brazil 2024 Symposium: 40 Years of Brazil in Antarctica from July 17th to 19th in the ESD auditorium in Brasília/DF.
In 2024, the event marked 40 years since the establishment of the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station (EACF), managed by the Brazilian Navy; 41 years since the first Brazilian Air Force (FAB) flight to Antarctica; and 42 years since the creation of the Brazilian Antarctic Program. Researchers and members of both civil and military society gathered for various panel discussions and academic presentations. The event welcomed 77 panelists from Brazil and seven other countries.
This year, the APECS-Brasil Symposium highlighted Brazil's significance on the icy continent, as well as the advancements and research conducted by various Brazilian and international research groups.
