In the past 24th of October, the XV APCES Portugal Workshop was held at historical village of Almeida, as part of the organisation of University of Beira Interior, under the theme "The Polar Express to Success: Enhancing ECR´s Writing Skills", together with the Portuguese Polar Conference on the 25th of October.

We were honoured to have with us the invited speakers: Prof. Catarina Magalhães (University of Porto), Dr. Roger Colominas-Ciuró (University of Valencia), Prof. José Xavier (University of Coimbra), Dr. Catarina Frazão (University of Lisbon) and the APECS President Hugo Guímaro (University of Coimbra).
Each one of them gives a high praise to the use and importance of understanding the structures of calls and criteria, as well as the continuous self-improvement of the writing skills.
The APECS Portugal workshop focused on the importance of ECRs acquiring essential skills and techniques to write effective and attractive project and funding proposals. Prof. Catarina and Dr. Roger gave their personal experience on national and international funding calls and best practices to apply. Prof. Xavier and Dr. Frazão, gave their tips and tools on how to write for top scientific journals, from their perspectives as author and editor. Lastly Hugo, has presented what APECS is all about and what stands and can do for Early Career Researchers. Such a worthful time, to gain insights from all of them.
The event also had other moments of fun with a quiz about the Polar regions and moments of network during the lunch and coffee breaks to share all the experiences together. The event was a great success with more than 30 participants of 8 different nationalities. Photo 1, shows all the participants and one of the talks held in the beautiful venue.
