100 Kosek KlaudiaJennings Inger SIOS Call for Access 2020The fourth call for access to SIOS research infrastructure is now open! This call is a great opportunity for Early Career Researchers wishing to conduct fieldwork in Svalbard during 2021.

Testimonials from previous ECR applicants:

"I highly recommend the SIOS Access Programme to early-career scientists, as a way to spark new international collaborations. Thanks to my SIOS Research Infrastructure Access Project Sval-POPs I could conduct joint fieldwork in Ny-Ålesund and Hornsund with an international Polish-Italian team, studying persistent organic pollutant concentrations in snow. The experience was mind-opening and enriching - it's an exciting opportunity at the early career stage! I totally recommend applying for projects from the programme also due to the common-sense approach of the project office, which allows maximising the research output from the initiative with minimum time spent on paperwork. This is the way to a new generation of research: more data and knowledge sharing, easier logistics and administrative tasks.” Krystyna Koziol, PhD, postdoc at Gdansk University of Technology, Poland

“The SIOS access programme is a great opportunity for ECR’s to engage with the Svalbard research community and actively contribute to Svalbard science. I am developing a new radar system for monitoring glaciers and SIOS offered a fantastic opportunity for me to deploy the sensor at an Arctic location with relative ease, enabling me to gather data radar data of glaciers for the first time. SIOS and the Polish Polar Station in Hornsund have been exceptionally helpful during the organisation of our project and continue to assist in the logistical planning of our Arctic fieldwork. Altogether, the access programme has expanded my academic network and developed my scientific capabilities, and I would highly recommend ECR’s of all stages to apply. And if that’s not enough to entice you, you will also attend the SIOS Polar Night Week, a great opportunity to meet the SIOS community and visit Svalbard in the winter!” William Harcourt, PhD candidate, University of St Andrews, United Kingdom
