WCRP is calling for nominations for membership of the World Climate Research Programme’s Joint Scientific Committee (JSC).
Are you a potential candidate with interest in the cryosphere? CliC is particularly supportive of scientists with a research background related to the cryosphere joining the JSC in order to help ensure good representation and cooperation between CliC and our parent organization, the WCRP. Further details can be found here.
The JSC is the highest-level steering committee of WCRP and an inclusive source of leadership for international climate research. Its membership includes world-leading scientists from around the world, representing a wide range of disciplines with relevance to WCRP’s work, both from the natural and social sciences. The JSC leads all aspects related to the science and organization of WCRP, aligned with its Science and Implementation Plan and with the overall aims and interests of its sponsoring organizations: the World Meteorological Organization, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, and the International Science Council. Nominations are invited from excellent, world-leading scientists from around the globe with a proven track record. We particularly encourage nominations from women and from those in the Global South. JSC members are selected for their scientific knowledge and standing, capability, and strategic vision. Initial shortlisting will be carried out by the JSC, with the final approvals being made by WCRP's sponsors.
Nominations can be self-nominations or submitted by others. The deadline for nominations is 15 March 2024.
Potential applicants are encouraged to also consult the following information prior to their nomination:
Please note that the nomination form requests the upload of a Curriculum Vitae that should include the science background, positions previously held, and at least five highly relevant publications of the nominee. A cover letter, written by the nominee or the person proposing the nomination can be uploaded as part of the same document.
